Prestige Biopharma IDC Signs Joint Research Agreement for Antibody Therapeutic Development Targeting Cancer Cachexia

Prestige Biopharma IDC Begins Full-Scale Validation of Antibody Therapeutic Potential
to Address Unmet Needs in Cancer-Related Complications

Prestige Biopharma IDC, an Innovative Discovery Center and subsidiary of Prestige Biopharma, announced on May 19 that it has signed a joint research agreement with Thor Therapeutics to develop a therapeutic candidate for Cancer Cachexia.

The joint research aims to verify the safety and efficacy of a novel antibody drug candidate currently being developed by Thor Therapeutics. Under the agreement, IDC will be responsible for key early-stage R&D processes, including: Development of production cell lines,Establishment and transfer of a Research Cell Bank (RCB), Evaluation of research outcomes, Technical transfer collaboration.

Cell line development and establishment of a Research Cell Bank (RCB) are essential steps in confirming the quality, stability, and development potential of antibody drug candidates. As the completeness of the early research foundation significantly influences the speed and success rate of subsequent non-clinical and clinical studies, IDC plans to fully leverage its expertise in antibody and cell line development to support the successful advancement of the candidate.

The two companies are focusing on Cancer Cachexia, a major cancer-related complication that causes rapid weight loss, muscle wasting, and loss of appetite in cancer patients. Although it directly impacts the continuity of anticancer treatment and patient survival, there remains a significant unmet medical need due to the lack of effective fundamental therapies. Through this collaboration, the companies plan to conduct a full-scale evaluation of the development potential of a novel antibody-based therapeutic for Cancer Cachexia.

Tae-heung Kang, Head of New Drug Development Division at IDC, stated, “This joint research agreement is a collaborative example of applying IDC’s antibody and cell line development capabilities to the development of an external partner’s antibody drug candidate. Based on our accumulated research experience and expertise in establishing early-stage research foundations, we will do our utmost to ensure the candidate can smoothly advance into subsequent development stages.”
