Prestige Biopharma IDC Signs Joint Development Agreement with Geovista for Companion Animal Therapeutics

Prestige Biopharma IDC, the R&D center of Prestige Biopharma, announced on the 16th that it has signed a joint research and development agreement with Geovista, a company specializing in companion animal therapeutics, for the development of GV-V213, a candidate treatment for canine atopic dermatitis.

Under the agreement, IDC will be responsible for cell line development, a critical early-stage process in the development of GV-V213. Cell line development involves introducing recombinant target antibody genes into host cells and cultivating them to produce recombinant antibody proteins, which serve as the active pharmaceutical ingredient of biologics. The development of high-quality cell lines directly impacts downstream manufacturing processes and overall product productivity, requiring advanced technical expertise. Leveraging its proprietary technologies and know-how, IDC will complete the development of the production cell line and a research cell bank (RCB) for GV-V213. Based on this foundation, Geovista plans to pursue commercialization and secure global licensing opportunities.

GV-V213, the subject of the joint development, is a canine IL-13-targeting antibody therapeutic candidate designed to treat atopic dermatitis in dogs. Atopic dermatitis is a common chronic condition in companion dogs, causing severe itching and skin damage that significantly reduces the quality of life for both pets and their owners. GV-V213 is engineered to alleviate symptoms by blocking IL-13 cytokine signaling, which regulates inflammatory responses. As an antibody-based therapeutic, it differentiates itself from conventional treatment options.

The animal health market continues to grow steadily, driven by the increasing companion animal population, heightened awareness of animal welfare, and expanding demand for high-quality therapeutics. According to global market research firm Research Nester, the global companion animal pharmaceuticals market is projected to grow from USD 23 billion in 2024 to USD 76.6 billion by 2037, reflecting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5%.
