Prestige Biopharma IDC Files Patent for Sustained-Release Subcutaneous Delivery Platform for High-Concentration Protein Therapeutics

Prestige Biopharma IDC (CEO: Sang-Seok Koh), the R&D center of Prestige Biopharma, announced that it has filed a domestic patent application for a temperature-responsive hydrogel formulation designed to deliver high-concentration protein therapeutics with sustained release in the body.

The technology enables efficient delivery of various protein-based drugs while allowing prolonged release after subcutaneous administration.

In recent years, subcutaneous (SC) formulations have gained increasing attention in the global biopharmaceutical market due to their ability to improve both patient convenience and therapeutic efficiency. Many antibody therapeutics are being developed or converted into SC formulations because they can significantly reduce the need for hospital visits.

The newly filed patent represents Prestige Biopharma IDC’s entry into the next-generation drug delivery system (DDS) field

The patented temperature-responsive hydrogel formulation remains in liquid form during storage and prior to injection but rapidly transitions into a gel state after administration in the body. Once gelation occurs, the system enables sustained release of the therapeutic protein over an extended period.

This property allows for potentially longer dosing intervals compared with conventional subcutaneous formulations.

CEO Sang-Seok Koh stated that the patent filing marks an important step toward independently developing subcutaneous formulations that can enhance patient convenience and treatment efficiency.

He added that the company plans to validate the platform through nonclinical and clinical studies and expand its application to a wide range of protein therapeutics.

Through this platform, Prestige Biopharma IDC aims to strengthen its competitiveness in the global subcutaneous formulation market while contributing to improvements in patient quality of life.
