Prestige Biopharma IDC Shares Antibody-Based Drug Research with KAIST Professors
Prestige Biopharma’s R&D center, the Prestige Biopharma Innovative Drug Center (IDC) led by CEO Sang-Seok Koh, announced that it successfully hosted the “Prestige Biomedical Forum: KAIST DAY” at the ROA Hall of its headquarters on the 8th. The forum was organized to promote collaboration among academia, industry, and research institutions while fostering the development of the bio-research ecosystem in the Busan and Gyeongnam region.
The event was held as part of IDC’s ongoing monthly lecture program, marking the first time that professors from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) were invited as keynote speakers. KAIST, globally recognized for excellence in science and engineering, was represented by five professors from the Department of Biological Sciences and the Graduate School of Medical Science, who shared the latest research developments and technologies in the field of biopharmaceuticals.
Professor Ho Min Kim from the KAIST Department of Biological Sciences delivered the first presentation titled “Molecular Mechanisms of Immune Regulation and Structure-Based Drug Candidate Design,” introducing strategies for designing new therapeutics based on immunoregulatory proteins and highlighting the potential expansion of therapeutic protein development.
Professor Byung Ha Oh, also from the KAIST Department of Biological Sciences, presented on “Computational Antibody Design,” emphasizing the critical role of computer-based antibody design technologies in developing precision immunotherapies targeting neoantigens.
Professor Kyuri Lee from the KAIST Department of Biological Sciences delivered a lecture titled “AI-Designed Functional Artificial Proteins,” highlighting how the convergence of artificial intelligence and life sciences is fundamentally transforming the paradigm of drug discovery. The presentation drew significant attention from participants, emphasizing how collaboration between science and digital technologies is opening unexplored frontiers in drug development. Professor Lee noted that “AI is no longer merely an analytical tool; it has become a creative partner that leads the design and discovery of new drug candidates.”
Professor Minho Song from the KAIST Graduate School of Medical Science introduced potential therapeutic approaches for cancer cachexia in a presentation titled “Cancer Neuroscience and Cachexia: Therapeutic Strategies Based on the GDF15–GFRAL Axis,” highlighting promising pathways for improving survival outcomes.
The final presentation was delivered by Professor Dae-Sik Lim from the KAIST Department of Biological Sciences, who discussed “Hippo Signaling and Pulmonary Fibrosis,” presenting a new therapeutic approach for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), a rare and difficult-to-treat disease.
CEO Sang-Seok Koh of Prestige Biopharma IDC stated, “The KAIST DAY forum served as a meaningful platform connecting KAIST’s cutting-edge research achievements with researchers in the southeastern region of Korea. As an open innovation hub built on collaboration among academia, industry, and research institutions, IDC will continue strengthening biopharmaceutical research capabilities and contribute to the balanced development of Korea’s bio industry.”
Prestige Biopharma IDC is the only research institution in the southeastern region of Korea dedicated to antibody-based novel drug development. Following this forum, the center plans to promote regular academic exchanges and collaborative research with KAIST. IDC also intends to expand its domestic and international research networks to help build a regional bio-innovation ecosystem. The forum is expected to become a recurring collaboration platform that will support sustained industry–academia–research partnerships and joint research initiatives centered in the Busan and Gyeongnam region.
