Prestige Biopharma Secures Chinese Patent for PBP1510, a First-in-Class Anti-PAUF Antibody for Pancreatic Cancer
Prestige Biopharma (KRX: 950210, CEO: Soyeon Park), a biopharmaceutical company specializing in antibody therapeutics, announced on the 7th that it has obtained a patent in China for its pancreatic cancer antibody drug candidate PBP1510 titled “Antibody Specifically Binding to PAUF Protein and Use Thereof.”
This marks the 12th patent granted for PBP1510 following approvals in Korea, the United States, Russia, Japan, and other jurisdictions, further recognizing the value of the first-in-class pancreatic cancer antibody therapeutic in the Chinese market.
With this patent approval, Prestige Biopharma—having already submitted an Investigational New Drug (IND) application to Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) for Phase 1/2a clinical trials—expects to accelerate its entry into China’s rapidly growing biopharmaceutical market while securing exclusive rights for PBP1510 in the region.
The newly granted patent represents a key milestone for expanding PBP1510 into the Chinese market. China is a member of the IP5, a consortium of the world’s five largest intellectual property offices, including those of Korea, the United States, Europe, and Japan. The IP5 collectively accounts for more than 80% of global patent filings, making it a leading authority in global intellectual property.
China’s biopharmaceutical market, estimated at approximately KRW 390 trillion, is considered one of the fastest-growing emerging markets and is approaching the size of the entire European pharmaceutical market. Despite its rapid growth, there remains a significant unmet medical need in pancreatic cancer treatment, further increasing interest in innovative drug development.
PBP1510 is a first-in-class antibody therapeutic targeting PAUF (Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma Up-regulated Factor), which plays a key role in tumor progression and metastasis. The drug represents Prestige Biopharma’s lead pipeline candidate for pancreatic cancer treatment. With this latest approval in China, PBP1510 has secured a total of 12 patents globally, and additional approvals are expected sequentially in other jurisdictions where applications have already been filed, including Europe.
Securing intellectual property rights is one of the most effective strategies for establishing exclusive market positioning and preventing competitor entry. Through this patent portfolio, Prestige Biopharma expects to strengthen the global commercialization pathway for PBP1510.
In parallel with protecting its intellectual property, the company continues to accelerate clinical development. Recently, Prestige Biopharma submitted an IND application to the Korean MFDS for Phase 1/2a clinical trials of PBP1510. The domestic clinical study will be conducted under the leadership of Professor Jinhyuk Hwang at the Cancer Center of Seoul National University Bundang Hospital.
Notably, the clinical program will be managed directly by the Innovative Discovery Center (IDC) in Busan, which is leading the development of PBP1510. With IDC overseeing the Korean clinical trial, the Singapore headquarters will be able to focus on multi-regional clinical development across Europe and the United States, enabling more flexible and efficient management of global clinical studies.
A company representative stated, “As we sequentially secure patents to protect the intellectual property of PBP1510, we are also accelerating new drug development through expanded clinical trials across the United States, Europe, Australia, and Korea.”
The representative added, “In particular, the newly granted patent in China enables exclusive use and protection of the anti-PAUF antibody therapeutic PBP1510 in one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical markets, which we believe will further strengthen its position as a promising pancreatic cancer antibody therapy.”
